What Does Refinishing Hardwood Floors Cost in Asheville?
Refinishing cost depends on square footage, the condition of the wood, how many stairs are involved, whether you are changing color, and which finish you choose. Hardwood Floor Refinishing in Asheville, NC

Full Sand and Refinish
4 to 7 days. We sand to bare wood, apply your stain color, and build 3 to 4 coats of finish. The right call for floors with deep scratches, pet damage, grayed or blackened boards, or a finish worn through in traffic lanes.
Screen and Recoat
1 to 2 days. A light abrasion and one to two fresh coats of finish. If your floors look dull but the wood underneath is undamaged, this restores the surface for a fraction of the disruption and cost.
Color Change
5 to 7 days. A full sand plus a stain consultation and on-floor samples. This is how a dated orange oak floor becomes a modern natural white oak or a deep espresso. We test your color on your actual boards first.
Stair Refinishing
Treads, risers, and nosings sanded and finished to match your newly refinished floors. Stairs take longer per square foot than open floor and are quoted separately, so we always walk them with you before the estimate.
Repairs Before Refinishing
Water damaged boards, gaps, and failed patches get addressed before sanding starts. We lace in matching species and grain so the repair disappears under the new finish rather than showing through it.
Not Ready to Refinish Yet
If the finish is intact and the floor is just dirty, a professional deep clean removes years of buildup and buys you time. We will tell you when that is the better spend rather than selling you a sand you do not need.

What Refinishing Week Looks Like in Your Home
A full sand and refinish runs 4 to 7 days. Here is how those days actually go, so you can plan around them.
Before We Start
We walk the floors with you, confirm the scope and stain direction, and give you a written estimate. No charge, no obligation.
Day 1, Prep
Furniture comes out, doorways and HVAC returns get sealed, and the containment system goes in. Clear closets and take down wall art on shared walls before we arrive.
Days 1 to 2, Sanding
Multiple passes bring the floor down to bare wood. This is the loud part of the week, and the part where the 95% dustless system earns its keep.
Day 3, Stain
Your color goes down and gets wiped back by hand. The floor sits overnight before any finish touches it.
Days 4 to 6, Finish Coats
Three to four coats with a buff between each. Floors stay off limits while every coat sets.
Day 7, Walkthrough
We inspect the floors with you and hand off written care instructions covering when you can walk on them, when furniture returns, and when rugs go down.

Is dustless sanding really dust free?
No, and anyone who tells you otherwise is overselling it. Our containment system captures about 95% of the dust generated during sanding. That is the difference between a fine film on one shelf and a house that needs professional cleaning afterward. A small amount still goes airborne, which is why we also seal doorways and HVAC returns before the sanders come out.
Should I refinish or replace my hardwood floors?
If your floors are solid hardwood with enough thickness left above the tongue, refinishing is almost always the better value. It costs less than replacement, keeps the original material in your home, and can be repeated several times over the life of the floor. Replacement makes sense when boards are cupped beyond repair, water damage has reached the subfloor, or an engineered floor has a wear layer too thin to sand. How do I care for newly refinished floors?
Give the finish time to cure before putting rugs down or sliding furniture back, and follow the written schedule we hand you at the final walkthrough. After that, sweep or vacuum with a hard floor setting, clean with a product made for hardwood, put felt pads under furniture legs, and keep indoor humidity steady through Asheville's seasonal swings.
