Custom Hardwood Floor Options
Most custom floors start with one of three ideas. Many combine them, like a herringbone field framed by a border.
Herringbone & Chevron
Classic zigzag patterns laid out to your room’s dimensions, from a tight herringbone to the continuous point of a chevron. Straight or diagonal, the pattern becomes the centerpiece of the room.

- Herringbone, chevron, and diagonal layouts
- Layout planned to your room before installation
- Site-finished for a smooth, even surface
- Custom stain color
- Borders available to frame the pattern
Best for: Entryways, dining rooms, statement living spaces
Wide Plank & Custom Widths
Solid hardwood in widths up to 11 inches, or mixed-width layouts that give a room a relaxed, handcrafted look. Wide planks show off more of the grain in every board.

Custom Hardwood Floor FAQs
How much does a custom hardwood floor cost?
Cost depends on the species, plank width, pattern complexity, any borders or inlays, and the finish you choose. Patterns and inlays take more labor than a standard layout. We provide a free estimate after a design consultation. Call 828.528.3150 to schedule one.
What is the difference between herringbone and chevron?
Both are zigzag patterns. In herringbone, rectangular boards meet at right angles in a staggered pattern. In chevron, the board ends are cut at an angle so they meet in a clean, continuous point. Herringbone reads as classic and textured, chevron as more streamlined.
How wide can hardwood floor planks be?
We offer solid unfinished hardwood in widths from 1½ inches up to 11 inches. Wider boards move more with seasonal humidity, which is why we acclimate the wood and check moisture before installation. We’ll help you choose a width that suits your home.
How long does a custom floor installation take?
It depends on the size of the space and the complexity of the design, and we give you a timeline with your quote. Plan for acclimation first, which typically takes 5 to 7 days depending on site conditions.
Do you work with builders and designers?
Yes. We collaborate with homeowners, builders, and designers on custom homes, renovations, and high-end projects. Visit our builders and partners page to learn more.
Do you install custom floors outside Asheville?
Yes. We work from our Black Mountain and Conover showrooms and install custom floors across Western NC, including Asheville, Hendersonville, Weaverville, Hickory, Morganton, and Boone.
