How We Install and Refinish Stairs
Assessment & Estimate
We inspect your staircase, confirm the species and existing finish, and provide a detailed estimate.
Preparation
The surrounding area is protected and the staircase is prepped for installation or sanding.
Installation or Sanding
New treads, risers, and nosing are cut and fitted, or existing stairs are sanded to bare wood.
Staining
Your chosen color, or a match to your existing floor, is applied for even coverage.
Finishing
Multiple coats of protective finish are applied, with buffing between coats.
Final Walkthrough
We inspect the results with you and provide care instructions for your new stairs.

How much does hardwood stair installation cost?
Stair pricing depends on the number of steps, the wood species, the nosing profile, and whether risers are included. Every staircase is scoped at a free assessment, and you get a detailed estimate before any work begins. Call 828.528.3150 for pricing information.
How long does a stair project take?
It depends on the scope. New treads and risers, refinishing existing stairs, and replacing damaged nosing each take a different amount of time, and site finishing adds cure time. We give you a timeline along with your estimate.
Will new stair treads match my existing hardwood floor?
That is the goal on every project. We match species and stain to your existing floor so the staircase flows with the rooms around it.
Should I refinish my stairs or replace the treads?
If the treads are solid and the wear is on the surface, refinishing is usually the better value. If treads are cracked, split, or too thin to sand, or the nosing is damaged, replacing those pieces makes more sense. We assess each step and recommend the right mix.
How should I care for hardwood stairs?
Sweep or vacuum regularly, since grit wears the finish fastest on stair edges. Use a hardwood-safe cleaner instead of water or steam. Our care guide lists the products we recommend.
